In 2021-22 Shear Zone Services completed an upgrade of two satellite receivers at the Globalstar Satellite Base Station near Meekatharra. The receivers are used to track the Globalstar low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites which provide telecommunications in highly remote areas.
Works included:
Company Directors Trent King & Jacki O'Donnell installed the first ground-sourced geothermal heat pump system in Tasmania. This unique style of heating (and cooling) utilises the ground's natural consistent temperature to gain efficiency in a heat pump system. Refrigerant is pumped through copper loops installed deep in the ground. As the refrigerant coming onto the heat pump is now warmed to the ground temperature (say 12C, instead of the air temperature of say 2C) it utilises significantly less power to boost the temperature to a comfortable 20C.
The system, installed at a rural residential property outside of Devonport, was used to heat a hydronic floor heating system.
